What is the Paneuropa Union?

The Paneuropa Union is a movement going beyond national borders and it is a non partisan movement. It remains faithful to the ideals and the political ideals of it's founder, Richard Coudenhove Kalergi. His vision of a peaceful Europe being united in its liberty and justice which was formulated for the first time in 1922 has always been valid, even after the historical changes during the last years.

The liberation of the people of Central and Eastern Europe from the yoke of Soviet communism inaugurated a new phase in European history which opens the perspective of a European-wide reunification in the near future. The Paneuropa Union cannot declare that it is satisfied with the current situation, although the communist system disappeared which was induced by force in the middle of our continent.

The Paneuropa Union declares that it is committed to European patriotism, the coronation of the national identities of all Europeans. Given the present situation of interdependencies and world-wide challenges, only a strong Europe which is politically united can guarantee the future for its peoples and ethnic entities. The Paneuropa Union accepts  the auto-determination and the legal systems of ethnic groups which are in the process of cultural, economical and political development.

The Paneuropa Union declares that it favours the liberal and responsible development of the individual, the reinforcement of the situation of families and other natural communities, a Europe of social justice which is committed to the principles of solidarity and subsidiarity. The responsibility for the world of tomorrow includes the responsibility of the individual and the state with regard to nature and creatures.

Christianity is the soul of Europe. Our commitment is marked by the Christian ideas of human rights and the principles of true system of laws. By promoting the community of values of our continent the Paneuropa Union opposes all tendencies which weaken the spiritual and moral power of Europe. It respects the contributions of Judaism and Islam to our culture of which they constitute an integral part. The Paneuropa Union is convinced that cultural and historical differences of the European peoples and of their languages are the richness of our continent.

It is the aim of Paneuropa Union to unite all European peoples in a strong Europe, which is able to promote its interests and ideals effectively in the world. This requires the rapid admission for the people of Central and Eastern Europe to enter the European Union, the starting point of the united Europe of tomorrow.

The Paneuropa Union supports the evolution of the European Union towards a political entity including the fields of security and defence which is able to act within the territory of the European Union and beyond its borders. This Europe must strive for a friendly relationship with its neighbours, especially Russia, Turkey and the other countries of the Mediterranean Basin. Our continent has the duty to represent the ideals of liberty and human dignity in the world.
